Tips and tricks

If you are thinking to come to Hasselt to do your Erasmus, I will tell you some tips that you should know during your stay here.

Accommodation

If you come to Hasselt as a student, you are most likely to stay in a student residence. In my case, I'm at Perron 21, a student residence near the bus and train station.

Keep in mind that the contract of the Belgian residence system is only for 6 or 12 months, even if your stay is shorter.

Make sure to start getting in touch with some residences half a year before your stay, to make sure you will have a room.

Transport

To get around the city and surroundings, I recommend you get the special PXL-Campus pas unlimited bus ticket for only 25€ (MOBIB-card).

Regarding the bike, you can rent it at the VEDO workshop for a total price of 100€, that you will get the deposit back when you turn the bike back (75€).

Finally, to move to one city to another, you will have to use the train. The most economic ticket is the GO PASS10 for 60€.

Events and parties

Although Hasselt is a small city, it is a very active city with different events during the year.

In my case, I enjoyed the Hasselt fair in September, the Jeneverfeesten in October and the Winterland from November to January.

There's also a nightclub called Versuz, where you can go every week, and on Thursdays the entrance is free for students.

Sport

With the Studentensport Limburg (SSL) sport card, you will have access to a lot of weekly activities, indoor and outdoor. It's a good option to meet new people and do exercise.

Also, if you want to go to the gym, there's a 24/7

Basic-Fit gym with a good service and price.
