REFLECTION

As a student from Spain who has had the opportunity to do a one-week teaching internship in a Belgian school, I have had a valuable experience that has influenced the development of both my professional and personal skills.

During my stay at the school, I have practiced active observation. This involves not only watching what happens in the classroom, but also listening carefully to the interactions between teachers and students, as well as between the students themselves. This observation has allowed me to understand the importance of effective communication in the educational process and how teachers communicate with students in a clear and understandable way.

I was paying attention to the communication strategies used by the teachers in the classroom. This included how they presented lessons, managed time, used body language and visual supports to transmit information effectively.

In addition, I have been looking for opportunities to interact with teachers and other school staff. Participating in informal and professional conversations has allowed me to improve my oral communication skills in an educational context.

I also had the opportunity to interact with the students. This experience was especially valuable as it allowed me to develop my communication skills with the younger ones. Adapting my language and communication style to make it appropriate and understandable for primary school students was a gratifying challenge.

In summary, my teaching practice experience in a Belgian school has been an enriching opportunity to develop my communication skills, both in a professional and personal context. I have learned the importance of effective communication in education and how to adapt my communication to different audiences. I am excited about how these learnings will influence my future teaching career and how I will be able to apply them to create an effective and understandable learning environment for my own students.
